The Farm Logbook

of the month of February

In production

This month, let's take a little tour of the field with Olivier!

After months spent in the "sorting room" pampering each seed to ensure they were as clean as possible (and ensuring peak germination rates), Olivier finally finished sorting the last batches this week. Mission accomplished!

He can now get back into the fresh air and tackle preparing the soil for the next crops, while digging in the green manure sown in the fall. The only problem: the ground is still soggy... so for the false sowing, he'll have to wait a little longer.

💡 False sowing is a bit like a weed trap: you prepare the soil as if you were going to sow, you let the weeds germinate, then you destroy them with a mechanical tool. Less competition for the crops, more peace of mind for us!

The carrot crop... served as a feast for a family of hares🐰, which slowed their growth a little (the carrots, not the hares... are you following?). To give them a helping hand, we closed the tunnel openings to boost the temperature. As a result, the carrots have recovered, but the green aphids have taken advantage of the situation to invite themselves to the party! Fortunately, these little squatters are not very nasty, a good treatment with black soap will be enough to make them leave!

Meanwhile, in the open field, the perennial leeks and rocambole onions continue to grow. To help them thrive, we've spread Bochevo, a natural fertilizer made from manure and droppings from cattle, horses, and poultry. A truly energizing cocktail for the soil.

What do we see a little further on? A beautiful path dotted with daisies (doesn't that smell a bit like spring?).

And that's it, the end of Olivier's field tour! In the next logbook, we'll reveal everything about the upcoming crops! Marion and Alisée are busy thinking about the production plan... and we can tell you, we can't wait to see what's in store.

Julien's Garden

Julien, our super head gardener, has designed the plan for the future vegetable garden located next to our store. And guess what? We're giving you a sneak peek at the plan!

A little something new this year: the garden will be expanding in the coming months with 8 perennial beds (to the right of the garden), each one around an inspiring theme to give you lots of ideas! The goal is that if you like one of the beds, you can leave with the potted plants, grown on site, by March/April, the time it takes to produce the pants. So, ready to green up your garden?
