What to do in the garden in February?
February continues in the same vein as January. Low temperatures require sheltering part of the vegetable garden and ornamental garden from the cold, while pruning work takes place outside of periods of frost. In February: Take inventory of vegetable seeds and place orders for seeds and potatoes. Keep protections on winter vegetables in place to harvest in all weather. In the vegetable garden and garden: Aerate the soil using a broadfork or spade. Finish pruning and cleaning trees, citrus fruits, peach trees, and small fruits. Apply mastic or healing tar to wounds. Hill up, start artichokes depending on the weather. Add a basic fertilizer to the vegetable garden, prepare the plots. Force sorrel, blanch dandelions. Incorporate crushed soil improvers, manure, or compost on the surface. Take advantage of this period to lightly plow your rose beds and give them a specific fertilizer. Also start maintaining your lawn, by scarifying and aerating, and give it a specific fertilizer.
