Near my vegetable garden
A vegetable garden requires a bit of work. It is therefore good to think about a few practical installations when designing it. A water point Despite all the savings that can be made by respecting the best times of the day for watering or by mulching, a water point is essential. Whether it is based on recovery - be careful, we always consume much larger quantities than we imagine - or more traditionally water from the network or a well, it is almost impossible to do without it. Knowing that 1 L of water weighs around 1KG and that a watering can contains 10 to 12L, it is easy to understand that a central water point is welcome... A shed Very practical without being essential, often giving rise to real architectural creations that are more or less questionable, a small shed to store your tools and take shelter when it rains ensures pleasant comfort. Its roof provides a large surface area for collecting water, while its plank or masonry walls will allow you to train many fruit or ornamental plants. A compost heap The last and essential element in the vegetable garden: the compost heap. No gardener without a garden, no garden without a gardener, to which I would add: no garden without compost. The latter alone sums up the spirit of the vegetable garden: a place where we limit inputs as much as possible, where we recycle as much waste as possible, where, starting from a devalued material (peelings, damaged plants, etc.), the most modest gardener becomes an alchemist and, with happiness, creates his "black gold of the garden". The compost heap is unsightly, without being nauseating, which would reveal a defect. Choose a location that is not too conspicuous, and plan to plant nearby some plants intended to hide it, such as hazelnut trees or raspberry bushes. The temptation is great to confine it to the back of the garden, but be careful not to move it too far from the house, or to stick it against the neighbors' land, who will not necessarily appreciate this new element in their decor. No burning Hedge trimmings, weeds, for the most unscrupulous, plastic packaging and other wonders... It is common to burn waste in the vegetable garden and to create a fire point for this purpose, generally secured with metal sheets. Despite all that one can hear about hypothetical prefectural decrees and other imprecisions, it is strictly forbidden to burn at home. There are now recycling centers intended to recover what was previously burned. The only exemptions for burning concern farmers and are made after a request and administrative procedures with the DDAF (departmental directorates of agriculture and forestry).
