Orchard care

In the fall, remove any mummified fruit that has remained hanging or fallen to the ground. These are often the source of tree contamination. Every two years, give your trees a fertilizer rich in potash and phosphorus. It encourages fruit set and is essential when the soil is poor. Preferably use natural products such as horn or dried blood, otherwise use ready-made mixtures. In winter, coat the trunk and branches with tree whitewash (made from quicklime); it is an effective remedy against diseases and pests. In early spring, spray the branches of all fruit trees with Bordeaux mixture as a preventative measure before flowering. Do not do this when the tree is in bloom.
