KALE TRONCHUDA FROM PORTUGAL NT
Brassica oleracea var. capitata
A very old autumn and winter variety, native to Portugal. It is somewhere between green cabbage and Savoy cabbage, and is also called "butter cabbage." This cabbage is robust and resistant to both heat and cold. Tronchuda kale does not form a head, but a succession of light green leaves with very large white ribs, which can be picked as needed.
Use
Its leaves are tender and melting. They are traditionally used in Portugal to prepare cozido (Portuguese stew) and consoada (cod cooked in water with potatoes).
Sowing
Under cover : from March to April, at a temperature between 18 and 20°C.
In open ground : from April to July, at a depth of approximately 0.5 cm.
Transplant the young plants into place, approximately 1 month after sowing, when they have 4 leaves, 80 cm apart in all directions. Water well.
Harvest
Cut the leaves as needed. Like many cabbages, its flavor will be best after the first frost.
