The leaves of the ice plant are slightly acidic, very pleasant to the taste, and are eaten raw in salads. The cooked stems and leaves are eaten with butter or juice.
Synonyms: Crystal Ficoidea, Crystal Mesembryanthemum, Ice Herb.
Sowing ice plant
Sowing in situ: from May to July, in rows 30 to 40 cm apart, in a sunny position. The soil should be rich, not too wet but fresh. When the plants have a few leaves, thin out to 30 cm in the row.
Undemanding, the ice plant is heat-resistant, but fears cold and excess humidity.
