Treatment against the butterfly responsible for the pine processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopoea pityocampa). The adult insect is the pine processionary butterfly, best known for its caterpillars whose bodies are covered with extremely stinging hairs. These caterpillars always move in a long single file (in procession). In summer, the adult pine processionary butterfly emerges from the ground. After mating, the female lays her eggs on a pine branch. The caterpillars are born 5 to 6 weeks later. They feed on the pine needles, causing defoliation and weakening of the tree. The principle of the treatment is to use the female's specific pheromone to attract the male and trap it in order to prevent mating and the laying of eggs that will give rise to future caterpillars. Dosage / surface: 1 to 4 trap(s) + pheromone(s) per tree. The pheromone sachets should be kept cold (refrigerator or freezer). These pheromones are used with the 1206C house trap or the 6327C pheromone trap. Shipping to mainland France only. This product contains 2 pheromone capsules. Sold without the trap. 1 single pine tree: 1 to 2 traps Alignment of pine trees: 1 trap 1 pine tree out of 3 or every 25 m. Group of several pine trees: 1 trap every 25 meters on the outer pine trees Several hectares of pine trees: 6 to 8 traps per hectare on the edges and in the clearings How do pheromones work? Pheromones are volatile substances secreted by living beings (animals, insects, certain plants, etc.). In insects, the pheromone is generally emitted by the female to play a sexual attraction on the male who can detect it several kilometers away. Each insect pest corresponds to a specific pheromone. The principle of the treatment is to attract the male insect by imitating the pheromone of its female to trap it and thus avoid mating and reproduction. 1. the capsule imitating the female pheromone is placed in a trap to attract the male 2. the male detects the pheromone, he thinks he is joining the female 3. the male enters the trap, he is captured, production is stopped. How to set up the pheromones? The pheromone capsule is packaged in a waterproof bag. It is used as soon as the bag is opened. It must be placed in the small capsule holder basket of the pheromone trap. The trap + pheromone assembly is to be placed in the tree to be protected. Treatment period: from July to August
