BLACK ELDERBERRY KORSOR AB - PLANT
SAMBUCUS nigra Korsor
The Korsor elderberry is distinguished by its vigorous and upright growth. In spring, it is adorned with slightly scented flowers, while its fruits, which reach maturity in early September, are particularly prized. The hollow wood of this plant attracts many insects. This wild elderberry is characterized by its compact clusters and large black fruits, offering high productivity. Unlike other varieties, the juice produced is medium-colored.
For a successful planting, it is recommended to choose a fresh soil rich in organic matter. This variety of elderberry is adaptable to various types of soil and exposures. A supply of compost and regular watering during the first years promote optimal growth.
Currently, it is mainly used in cooking: its flowers are used in the preparation of syrups, wines, sorbets and lemonades, while its fruits, cooked, are used to color and flavor cakes, as well as to make jellies and jams.
However, it is important to note that unripe parts of the plant, such as leaves, branches and roots, are poisonous.
On the other hand, the leaves can be useful in the garden as a compost accelerator thanks to the manure they provide.
